Funny thing is, I'm seeing a lot of people like 'how dare you say such a thing'. If you can't handle the answer, don't ask the question.

It's because your explanation and comments were stupid, to be blunt. You're disregarding disabled people and the fact that not everyone can shovel thousands of dollars out to get a license. Your justification for your comments, which all have an arrogant attitude and could be taken offensive to some (and they already have, by at least one disabled person :hrmm:), is incredibly weak. Just because someone asked if real pilots use FS doesn't give you the right to post whatever you want.

Also, your analogies regarding the money spent on FS and the money it takes to get a license are ridiculous. Most people spend anywhere from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand on a rig, and probably a few hundred more on addons and peripherals. That is not enough to pay for lessons, and buy/rent a personal aircraft.

I'm sure he could with help. If he can get in a car, I'm sure he could also get in the plane or helicopter if he had someone assisting him.

I don't even have words that can describe how ridiculous you're being at this point. I think all hope of explaining it to you is lost, if you believe any and every disabled person who wishes to fly can, with only a tad bit of effort.

Idiots on this forum don't know how to take a response to their question and leave it at that.

Funny, the same could be said for you and a few of your recent threads.

If Jambone is reading this, I see your point...this is ruining the forum.  (I still hold the fact that the comment was unnecessary in the nonsense forum, though. :P )

:hrmm: Oh man...

If simply answering a question honestly is ruining the form, than 'idiots' was putting it mildly. The ones ruining the forum are the ones who couldn't resist going 'OMG, WHAT!?!?! HOW DARE YOU!!! *sob* THINK OF THE POOR DISABLED!!! *baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawl'  when they saw my answer. :hrmm: Which oddly was just what I've been told by actual pilots.

Whoa 3 pages already. It's a shame Steve-O didn't show up, he's my rolemodel. Maybe I should start stalking him.

I will construct a reply, combing elements taken from many of your previous posts.

Whampa, your total disregardful sense for the people who sacrificed so much for this country and for you completely disgusts me. I think I speak for many when I say this. Screw you. I'm done here.

Way to reply when you don't know the context of my comment to Jambone.  He said the arguing in these forums is killing the forums...I see his point.  This thread quickly, out of nowhere, turned into another huge argument.

Couldn't have said it better myself. And it's quite true. I answered the question, you all couldn't handle it.  :P

Sorry, but, you're going to have to learn to deal with an opposing view point, cause I'm not going anywhere any time soon. If that's too much for you, you're welcome to leave the forums.

I know off quite a few pilots myself who still to this day continue to enjoy themselves flying on the computer, despite the fact that they have now qualified as real-world airline pilots. I have also spoken to a handful of guys and girls who are pilots and have never even flown on flight simulator in their life, obviously this does not include a full motion simulator! Horses for courses i guess.

Before I made flying a career I would fly on flight sim almost everyday.  I think its been almost 4 years now flying as a professional pilot and I have only fired up flight sim once and that was to let my girlfriend who was a flight attendent for Southwest Airlines try her hand at flying an ILS...lets just say I hope the pilots on her aircraft never need her to take the controls! LoL
I cant really say I know any pilots that I have worked with that play flight sim. When you spend most of your time flying in real life at the end of your day the last thing you feel like doing is going on a "Work Simulator". With that said, if I ever quit flying in real life, I would probebly be back on Flight Sim all the time!  :hrmm:

Zarqueen, you are a mug.

I know several pilots who use FS.

1. A 737 captain who uses the PMDG 737NG addon
2. An ex-747 (now 777) FO who used the PMDG 747 addon
3. A 737 FO who uses the PMDG 737NG addon

All of them have said that FS is very useful for keeping yourself familiar with the systems and experimenting with them.

And I know several who refuse to touch it. It shouldn't be that hard to accept without going into denial and personal attacks.  :hrmm:

It's not the game itself that R/W pilots laugh at but the 13 and 14 year olds that think they can fly a real 747 just because they can manipulate the autopilot on the PMDG 744. You can actually get VERY close to simulating R/W flight on MSFS if you know the procedures, and know the aircraft inside and out, but that takes years of simming and years of reading manuals and FARs to get to that level.

Many real pilots do use MSFS ever since the 1st flight sim was released simply because it helps maintain instrument skills in scenarios that aren't often encountered in the R/W.

I know quite a few that are in my VA (British Airways Virtual) that actually fly for the real BA, out of Gatwick. The pilot that was in the crashed BA 777 at LHR a while back thought it was a good thing to get into, but atm only have forum access to the VA

Quite surprising, I figured since they fly so much IRL they'd like some time off looking at a cockpit panel. :hrmm:

Most pilots I've met can't even say 'flight simulator' with a straight face.
Why? Pilots I know said to have been quite impressed when shown with planes like the ones from PMDG. The CAE flight academy at Brussels natl. used MSFS and eyetracking for instrument scanning tests.

Even without addons  or fancy stuff, despite being simplistic is still quite a fun and entertaining game for whoever is interested in it, especially GA.
IMO it's only really ridiculous when people ask if you had any flight experience before and then say you flew in FS.

Most of them say the same thing. "Put down the video game, get off your butt, and learn how to really fly. It's worth the work and once you do, you'll never look back at the video game."

What about those who can't fly a real aircraft, due to medical reasons?

There's still ways. :hrmm:

No there's not. If you can't pass the medical you aren't flying anything in the US, as that's basically your SPL.

Zarquen feeds on taunt, stop feeding it.

As for the question, the pilots I know don't really fly FS. But that is mainly because they don't have the time. And it doesn't beat the real flying they do every day anyway.

Yes, it is useful, know someone who uses it and it has helped him a lot. Gave him a good start on his type rating and it is definitely useful for practising when you are at home.

I know a fair few realworld pilots on IVAO, I fly with one regularly, he flies for KLM as a B738 pilot. He's only there on a short term contract but yeh.
At my flying school there is also a Thomson Airways pilot who uses our simulator well every time I'm there which is every other day. He'll come in say "Mek is a cuppa son!, i'm going to do some pretty niftty crosswinds in the Sim bring me cuppa owa when it's done eh" (yes that's how we talk over in Newcastle)

Having been taking regular lessons in both rotary and fixed wing for many years now, FS9 and FSX don't really closely relate to real world physics etc.

If you have played FS9/X and then try something like DCS Black Shark and have flown in real life you'll definitely know the more realistic one :hrmm:
