Yep, that's right. They'll be hanging loose. Or it maybe tied up with a bunch of other cables and knotted up.

Update..i've just opened the case and found myself not knowing whats what

As far as i can see, there are also only two spare connections, one coming from the CD drive and one from the PSU (i think) I've taken pics and if anyone could label them with whats what, thats would be appreciated.

If looking at the case front on, the right hand panel opened.

I see one spare 4 pin molex, cased in rubber. You'll need to buy the Y Splitter as well mate.

thanks mul, i take it the 4 pin molex is the connection with the black rubber on it in pic DSCN1810?

If so, doesnt this come from the back of the CD drive?

Also, can you point out where my current graphics card is?? Ive found the RAM, hard drive, heatsink, CD drive and the PSU (i think thats the big silver box at the top of the rear of the case)?

Thanks,

Mark

yeah thats the molex lead and no it's coming from the PSU

As for graphics card:

The dusty L shaped card with the black spikes on it. You remove it, and place the new card in, with the cooler facing upwards

On one rail of wires, there is a few 4 pin molexes normally. The one on the end is hooked to the CD Drive by the looks of it. The one further up the line with the rubber cover is another spare 4pin molex.

OK thanks, so now how to connect it all lol

So i take the rubber of the spare molex i have and then this connects to the Y splitter leaving 2 4pin outputs. These 2 outputs each go into the 2 inputs on the 6-4 pin power adapter and finally the black part of the power adapter connects to the graphics card.

And the graphics card goes in the same slot as the one i have now.

But where does the 6-4pin power adapter output connect to the card?

At the very rear of the card. The little black box on the end.

hehe ah well

one very final question which i forgot to include in that post. Do you think a local hardware shop will supply the 4-6pin adapter and the Y splitter as overclockers seem to be out of stock with the Y Splitter?

It's too short, and only has 5 pins.

I'd guess it's for one of the OEM's optional devices.

Unfortunately, still not pressed the Order button

I have now been told to check that my power supply will be able to cope with the new card.

I opened the case again and looked at the PSU but none of the info meant anything to me. So....once again i've taken a pic of the PSU label.

More than enough for sure. X1950 Pro's have a nice power consumption (~60W drain) which is low compared to it's bigger brothers, X1950XT and XTX.

What's promising is the Dual 18A +12V rails and a max of 264W. I know your PSU says max power of 305W, but that's more likely it's continuous output. It'll do around 350W peak, and it's a quality PSU. I reckon it'll do fine.
