For a better gaming performance and that extra money you have I would suggest a 10K or 15K rpm extra Hard Drive.

I disagree. All 10k/15k RPM drives are very expensive, very loud and come in very small sizes. You'd be better off with a RAID 0 setup of some 7200RPM drives.

I'd get the Q9450 over the Q9550.  I'm sure it clocks just as well as a Q9550, but it's also quite a bit cheaper.  I know the money issue really isn't a thing, just throwing in my 2 cents.

still would not spend that much for what that is.... bet you won't get much more fps than a computer like mine, and mines not even worth a grand inside the box.

Computers change a lot, overkilling might be paying too much for nothing

You won't get any more frames from a computer which is $5500 (2700 pounds) than a computer which is $2000 (1000 pounds)

Case - $150
Q9450 - $350
8800GTS G92, atm the 9800GTX is not at a good price point -$220
8GB of DDR2 RAM - $200
X38 Mobo - $250
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10, 320GB should do - $100
Windows Vista Ultimate - $400
Samsung 226BW - $320
Misc (Keyboard, mouse, fans...) - $100
Tuniq Tower $40

Total - $2130

You don't need to shell out £400 for Vista Ultimate either... In fact, the upgrade version of Home Premium is dirt cheap!

With all due respect, I don't see the point quoting figures in US Dollars when the pricing here in the UK is clearly different. The suggested specification is near enough what you've said anyway, except we opted for a faster CPU.

Scott, your last spec is looking quite good. Just ditch the GPU cooler as it's a waterblock. You need a watercooling loop to use that. I'd sack Vista Ultimate and get Home Premium, unless the added features are a must for you. Also, replace the Corsair PC2-8500 for some OCZ PC2-8000 or even just PC2-6400 as it won't be holding you back.

OCZ PC2-8000C5 £88 (save £29)
http://www.overclock.......&subcat=817

Home Premium £70 (Save £47)
http://www.overclock.......=20&subcat=

Q9450 £258 (Save £120)
http://www.overclock.......&subcat=793

I've also had a slight change of heart about the Q9550 now that I've seen the price difference between that and the Q9450. An extra £130 for 166MHz per core is quite excessive.

Small compromises that'll do little to hurt performance and you save a bit under £200.
