That's the way I've done it. Then I made a .mdl file for each coloured light with separation planes built in and then used SceneGenX to place them all. I just thought there might be a way to get Afcad generated lights over the polys to save all this effort.

btw, Sorry to hijack thread.

Gah, yes, separation planes... enough to drive a grown man to tears. Have you ever tried making your own PAPI using separation planes? Now that's a nightmare.

I like it it's nice. But it kinda looks like it's stretched and flat, like it's straight off google earth. I like it though, I love the third shot.

Yeah its probably because i havnt touched any terrain yet and also i have not put any buildings over it so it looks dead lol. But once buildings and elevated highways are added it should look better.

So basically all you did was import the satalite images with terrabuilder and showed that?

Don't get me wrong dude, It looks good, but if I want to look at satalite images there are a gazzillion places to go on the internet...:hrmm:

Its a preview of the satellite imagery used in the project. There hasn't been many or any high quality Sydney Airport sceneries around so i like to update people on what they can expect. And no i didn't use terrabuilder i used gmax. And if you have a gazzillion places to look at satellite images on the net why are you telling me ? its previews of a project, thank you.

Don't just slag someone's work off, especially on the basis of a couple of obviously very early preview shots. I happen to know just how much work and time Ridz has put into modelling this project and obtaining *licenced* aerial shots, which is more than can be said for a lot of sceneries out there.

Thanks Chris some people just don't appreciate anything.. and also if you put it into a way of viewing satellite images on the net, out of them gazillion satellite images which ones can you view without aircraft parked in the parking spots  :hrmm:  nah im just being a smart a** take care

Yeah the buildings were actually alive before the satellite images were lol.. The satellite images are the most recent addition to the project.

I'm sorry but I do hope you ditch that satellite imagery.

If you look at FlyTampa, FlightZone, ISDT..  they don't use sat imagery, they make their own ground textures.  Keep in mind, FS doesn't display sat images for scenery, they have their own "gamed down" textures, and you should stick with that so the airport textures blend in smoothly with the environment around it.

This is also an issue I have with McPhat textures, where they use textures that make the plane look real, but the scenery behind it doesn't look real and it throws it off..

but that's just my opinion.

Hey guyz !

I totally disagree with your opinion NWilkinson. We all know that default FS textures (both 9 and X) are awful, representing nothing real at all. So trying to blend one's customised airport ground textures with the default set must be much more overwhelming than showing an effort in doing the scenery itself. That might be true for FlyTampa opting for the blending, however there are many other contemporary designers who chose to use satellite or aerial images directly on their work like Aerosoft, FSDT, Imaginesim, UK2000, and others I barely remember now.

RIDZ, is your YSSY, Sydney project aimed to be payware ? The images look stunning, I hope to see some building development shots soon.
Take care.

Narrowly forgot to ask: is it for FS9 ?  :hrmm:
