Paths, especially if the background is complex.

The pen tool is the best way of removing things. You have full flexability when selecting what you want.

I don't even know what the lasso tool does anymore, I only use the pen tool :hrmm:

And by the way, I LOVE that beginning of that tutorial <-- HILARIOUS! :hrmm:

If you have a solid backdrop (like a totally solid color that contrasts the object), you can sometimes use the magic wand tool. :hrmm: It works good with planes when the background totally blue.

The sensitivity adjustment for Magic Wand is at the top, I believe it's called Tolerance.

I normally take a picture (if im planning on a composite) against a solid color backgroud, a solid blue sky if its from below, or make it very overcast and foggy if from above, and box the aircraft. Copy it, and use the magic wand tool and adjust the tolerance so that it cuts it out nice. The you have a layer that is only the plane, and it was a quick fix!

Always leaves bad edges though :hrmm:

Nope, like I said, if the background is solid enough, then changing the tolerance on the magic wand will fix it.

Well, bad edges (jaggy) are sometimes visible on your composites. But, magic wand works, it's just that pen tool is more 'perfect'.

Yeah I have had them on my comps before, and you are right that the pen tool is more perfect, but cmon. It saves, what, 10 minutes?

Chris, if you use CS3, you could use that new Quick Select tool that is a replacement for the Magic Wand. It is far better than the Magic Wand
