How about a photography competition where people send entries of photos relating to a theme, such as scenery etc.

If two people entered the contest, one with a point-n-shoot digital camera, and one with a big fancy DSLR, the member with the fancy camera will win. It's not fair to have a photo contest under those conditions.

why don't we all come up with rules now, how can we make sure that it's their photo, and not taken from somewhere one the internet?

Not necessarily, it matters how you use the camera.  My Sony HDR-SR10 can take as good photos as an SLR.

I agree, it shouldn't be entirely about the quality too, but also which picture fits the theme the best.

I guess one of the ways to see if it really is their picture, is to have competitors "register" their camera they use, and make sure the date/camera etc match the properties of the picture

That's the same as saying we shouldn't have a screenshot comp because someone might enter with a Quad Core system with 4gb of RAM and 2 8800GT's compared to someone entering with a P3, 256mb RAM and integrated graphics.  

Anyway, I null voted as I'm not sure, we struggle to get enough entries into some of the competitions we do currently.

I have entered in competitions before where this is never an issue. In fact, I recently took second place to a photograph taken with a point and shoot (albeit in low light conditions), whereas I use a DSLR.

That is ofcourse 2nd place after Naturelles, The best photographer here

High definition camera thats something new, remember HD is 1980x1080 (full HD) and modern digital cameras can take well over that.

It must comply with the theme, and be 500x500 or larger, not smaller, unless the theme says so.

Edits are allowed, but you may NOT include photographs not taken by you in it, nor computer generated images etc.  This is a photography contest

You must send a picture the the camera in front of a mirror along with your actual competing picture.

Comply with the other rules of FSW, no p#r#


OK if thats all set, I'll start accepting entries for the November contest.

Theme : Leaves.

How about only one size either: 800 x 600, or 1024×768. That way all images are the same size, makes it better for viewing. That or I am just picky

Good idea, but the on;y downfall is it is really the same as just saying "This is my camera". Someone could still send in a picture taken by that camera, but the Picture in the mirror doesn't prove it is theirs.
Though if someone goes though all the trouble to find pics with the same camera, they really have no life.

Sorry to nit pic, hope you don't take it the wrong way, only trying to help abit

Oh and leaves is a great theme, I have an awesome tree in my backyard.
