well it is taking unusually long and slow on some of them even freezing every few seconds even when not viewing the client program. I notice the odd freezes every few seconds by the sound that comes out of my earphones as a very faint noise

What other programs are you running when you are folding? Most the time you cannot play any other games while folding; or else the PC will start to freeze up & can lead to blue screens. You're definitely workin your way up the list, keep it goin!
There are many different GPU work units. They all take a different time to complete and offer different points. The 1888 pointer's take quite some time (6-7hrs non-stop on your GTX 275) to complete; while a 353 pointer might only take a bit over 1 hour to complete.

In FahMon, as long as the colored box stays Green while it's running - It's doing what it's supposed to be doing. It will be yellow when you first start the client, but after about 3% it will turn green. If FahMon ever has a solid yellow or a solid red square...Something's not right.
