Why make it so hard? The FSScreen utility posted earlier works even if you're not in FS.

But that just created bitmap images, which take up more filesize.

but seriously, FRAPS lets you decide what file to save the screenshots as, like if you pick JPG. then you take SS's, they will be in .jpg.
