I find it awfully hard to believe that a pilot would be able to use x-ray vision into the middle of the captain and specifically determine what type of device it was.

But that would be a waste of an RB211. I'm surprised that this guy could get something like that through security especially since from what has been found so far, this guy isn't connected to terrorist organizations. Despite what he says, he is possibly just some guy with his own terrorist intentions and a not too smart one at that.

Bearing in mind this is Sky News, so don't take my word for it if it didn't happen, it's just what I saw.
Will there be images of the damage caused by the flames? , would be quite interested to see them if there are any around just to see the extent.
Aircraft reg is N820NW btw

Considering Rolls Royce sacrifices RB211's to test impact of FOD during engine development, we could volunteer the guy's services to the cause.

The point is that the US spooks FAILED to act on good information. The information to the US Embassy was reported some time ago. Why was (as is now, proven correct) the information from such a credible (his DAD for heavens sake) source not followed up on ?
The "system failed"! The questions that should be asked:is it incompetence, lack of resources or bad use of resource, with all the billions of USD going into "intelegence"
Scenerio: Dad tells US Embassy he belives his Son is a potential terrorist. US embassy tells or doesn't tell Spooks.....
son get on a plane to th US and on descent tries to blow the thing out of the air. wth!!!! Failure by the Us authorities to adequatly respond to a good credible lead= FAILURE!!!!
