I'd like to gather some opinions on why the screenshot contests fail to gather any interest these days.

So please post your comments here.

I still like them, however I do not enter them. I like seeing people putting their skills to their best.

I don't have the hardware (REX or decent scenery) to come close to winning.

People are busy with life and some do not think contests are fair! I think, however, a quarterly contest would get some entries! I also never see the "announcements" for them! My fault perhaps! Maybe if they were posted in both the screenshots forums!

I personally like the screenshots to be natural (featuring only FS visuals, including add-on scenery and utilities). I don't like when people edit their screenshots for a contest because then it becomes a photoshopping ability and not really displaying the awesome picture someone took.

Just my feelings.

The last contests were displayed in both screenshot forums and on other areas of the site

That's why there are two competitions; edited and non-edited.

My opinion, it's easy for people to post about there being no contests however, when they do get what they want, they're too lazy to participate. I'll admit, I'm usually too lazy to enter but that's why I try not to moan that the screenshot contest don't go up; it's just plain hypocrisy

As roboa said, there was a monthly 'Official' contest which was purely UNEDITED shots based on a particular theme and sometimes the chance of winning a prize.
The monthly EDITED contest had no theme or prizes but gave bragging rights to the person with the best editing skills.

Well, for contests, I don't really care as long as there are specified rules. I've voted in them previously, but never participated. I just like them because I enjoy seeing what people can come up with and I think it adds a certain friendly competition that can bring us to discuss something without fighting.

I actually more so feel that we should have a separate forum for edited and non-edited screenshots. I like to view the non-edited ones because it's a representation of what someone really sees when they're playing the game.

I'm pretty sure we clarified that as well in previous posts.

As far as screenshot contests not being fair...

I'd say do not list the member names when posting screenshot competitions. They should be submitted via PM or email without public knowledge. Members would be biased towards other members they see as their friends. Assign each image a number and just let people vote based on the image alone and no other factor. The contest thread should be locked from any responses so nobody can post their opinions or say "That's my image"

That makes it 100% fair.

You've pretty much recited half of the rules for both contests as they are now.   
I'll take on board the locking part although it's good to see discussion on the entries.

There's nothing to discuss until after the competition is over. By posting a response saying "#2 should definitely win. It has the best clouds," you're just trying to sway everyone. If it's really the best, then everyone should be able to make up their own mind and choose it.

People are just too immature on this forum to not go with what they want to see, and instead would rather vote against someone else or with their friends.

The contests died the second the site switched to FSW from FS2004.com

Well after they abolished the count down reminder box thing at the top of the forum interest decreased a lot.

Then it switched to FSW and all the old hosts pretty much stopped posting.
Also now theres a new generation of users online that don't seem to share the same interest in the contests as we have had in the past.

Lots of other forums are still holding monthly contests.  I do agree that if we got the countdown banner back, it would help alot.  I'm also in favor of hiding the name of the contestant until the contest has ended.  I for one, am aiming at having a successful contest this month.  Keep the suggestions rolling in guys!
