I spotted some posts on the OrbX forum yesterday and started scouring the web. I ended up finding this topic over at AVSim. Thoughts?

The last few minutes of 10 Minute Taxi were dedicated to some "inside" info regarding Flight.

Lets review what was said:

No set focus on aircraft type
Realistic physics engine set to be produced for higher fidelity add-ons
Online store will help to prevent piracy for 3rd party developers
New way of installing add-ons
Runs of today's hardware, NOT tomorrow's
Planned February 2012 Release

Thoughts, anyone?

Gotta love those reliable "insider sources".
Are they the same ones that dish the dirt on celebrities?

Unless it comes direct from Microsoft, I wouldn't put too much faith in it.
There are certain to be some NDA's involved and I seriously doubt that anyone would be stupid enough to risk their career by leaking some information.

NDA's are usually vague or have several loopholes. One of which is international recognition and enforcement of the document. An American business documenting an NDA in the US will find it difficult to enforce it in the United Kingdom. The NDA would state litigation would be possible in the US, but to litigate the offender, the matter would have to be drawn up in a court of the offender's country. It's a win-lose situation no matter how you write it up.

Online store?  I thought so.  I bet this means there will be no backwards compatibility.  So much for keeping my Carenado aircraft :hrmm:

Nobody has said such a thing.

The online store seems like a DLC opportunity, with more than just Microsoft hosting their products. This is good in the sense that we will now have 1-click install for addons; it's bad in the sense that it could bring limited control to game files and makes me question the future availability of a SDK.

Don't you think it's a little too early for it to be released in Feb '12? I mean they're still in alpha stage.

Battlefield 3 is in alpha stage and it's set for release in October 2011. :hrmm:

That's because Battlefield is a product of EA and almost everything they release in the gaming community is the equivalent of fast food, i.e. junk. They're no example to follow by any means. :hrmm:

Take Rockstar's GTA as better examples; but even that should not be compared to Flight Simming standards, where an entire virtual globe is rendered. I think the alpha stage should run until late 2011. Then by early 2012 the game should be in beta mode. By April/May/June time, MS Flight could release final details and a demo. Then as early as July/August 2012 we should be expecting the game to come out, right around the London Olympics.

Battlefield 3 is the product of DICE and EA publishes it.

We have no way of knowing that they are still in alpha for sure. I mean, they could be, but they also could not be.

This idea of Flight could also very well be seeded into our minds for us to discover.

Makes no difference for me - I'm not switching and losing my add-ons for FS9, and no way am I re-purchasing all of the same add-ons just to upgrade them to Flight compatibility.

That's why I don't like the advancements in technology.

"You like your new purchase? It's so advanced and hip isn't it? Ooh I can see your friends are going to love it, and the chicks will dig how expensive your belongings are. Guess what, it's obsolete already, you might aswell start using DOS again."

So you're going to stick with old, obsolete technology with the visuals of a rock? :hrmm:

If you know Mohammad, you'd know he was a Battlefield fanatic back in the day. :hrmm:
