man this is so sad.  It reminds us of how human lives are so unpredictable.....imagine those passengers and flight crew, they left their families, friends, went to the airport, made a 7-8h flight without any problems, and then look what happens.....so sad......we should really appreciate every minute of our lives cause we can never know when we'll leave this planet....

Air France Flight 358 ,

the daily A340-300 service from Charlles De Gaulle to Toronto Pearson , skidded off runway 24L after landing in severe rain and wind.

Its now sitting in a ditch just before the threshhold rnwy 06R , and PEOPLE ARE BEING EVACUATED ( some said they were trapped inside ).

A fire broke out just before / afdter the plane came to a stop , so people were just starting to be evacuated.

The explosion was most porbably cause by an engine or fuel tank rupture , cause a leak and then hitting the flames.

Fire Crews in attenfdance by the dozen , and the smoke is still there but fie is attempting to be dealt with.

Just over 200 people on board.

There are reports of limited / very few ( if any ) fatalities

Calum

Additional :

Pearson did close for a breif period as thunderstorms moved through , but is now re-opening / re-opened.

Quote

291 passengers on board

Quite unlikely , Air France Lists its seating capacity for the A343 at 252 passengers. Even still , the flight wasnt close to full. So a little over 200 pax is estimated at a push.

Edit for more :

People say they saw lightning close to / hitting the aircraft , but this would not cause a aircraft skidding off the runway , the aircraft is designed for the lightning to pass through the aircraft shell and leave near the APU ( at the back ). More likely reports of moderate windshear , which may have contributed to the landing / skidding off.

Okey first of all why is every news canal say that the aircraft Crashed..looks to me that it only skidded of the runway during heavy rain and caught fire after that no big deal.....And if the Pilot and co-pilot is Okey then more or less eveyone on that aircraft is OK....

But it's still to bad seeing a aicraft on fire

They said on MSNBC's newscast.

Atleast 5 confirmed dead.

2 Bus load of passengers have been taken to the hospital from the crash who HAVE survived.

Still more to sift through, death toll may be a dozen or more.

So bad :D

One of the passengers said that they heard a couple tires blowout.  That would have almost eliminated all braking power.
