We had a bird-strike on take-off and had to return to Damascus.
Problems with ATC also so took longer than expected to get back.
Fortunately all passengers returned unharmed and were please about the captain's skills.
Costs of replacing the engine, $7M

Around the World 07/08 - leg 040 - Damascus (Syria) - Amman (Jordan)

After our bird-strike on the last attempt to get to Amman the entire right engine has been replaced and now it's time to try again. This time the flight was again not without problems. Half way through the flight the no.1 engines oil temperature started to rise excessively so the captain decided to shut it down, call in a mayday and to continue on to Amman.
Fortunately the weather was great so after a smooth landing on RWY 08L all passengers could exit the aircraft savely. After close inspection it seemed a small bird had been sucked into the engine causing the problems. smile.gif

The problems with no.1 engine could luckily be repaired over night, costing us a mere $5M. Todays flight was rather uneventfull except for the landing where we flared to much and our tail scraped the tarmac.

due to time constraints a short debrief:
the costs for our 50h maintenance were $627k which were paid for by our sponsors.
parked at gate 4 we pushed by to taxi to RWY 34.
after take-off we climbed to our initial altitude of 7000 feet after which we climb to our cruising altitude of 39000 feet.
arriving in the dark of the night ATC vectored us to an ILS approach into RWY 27.
after leaving the runway we taxi to gate 12 where we shut down for the night.
