I see a lot of people asking others to make signatures for them, if they don't have the software then that's understandable but some people have the software but are too lazy to learn the techniques themselves by trial and error. This is a simple tutorial that will make you understand the basics of a clean, nice-looking '2.0'-styled forum signature, the same technique could be used for making other stuff(flyer, logo etc.) also.

Nice work!

Also check out Deziner Folio's Ultimate Web 2.0 Gradient Pack. I use it every time I make anything Web 2.0-styled in PS.

What font did you use? I am using the latest version of Paint.Net so I'm having to guess at the Paint.Net names (or in some cases, equivelent effects) for some of the effects you use, but I seem to be getting pretty close! Paint.Net has the following blending modes, which do you think is closest to stroke?

Oh, one more thing, are the background and the rectangle on the same layer? I can't tell from your pics.

For the first question look at this topic and download the plug-in.
As for the second one, the background and the rectangle are on separate layers.

Forgot to mention it, it's Frutiger Linotype.

All right, I found the font. Here's two variants of my first attempt:
This is the original:

Here's the original with a faint drop shadow on the font:

It looked pretty close to Verdana, so that's what I used.

Make a rectangle of your favorite color.
And then when you apply the stroke, pick either Outside, Inside, or Center, and choose a width. Salem uses 4 px.

Then choose a color. Salem uses white.
