I read on some aviation news website that SIC was texting while intercepting....

I doubt any pilot would be stupid enough to be texting while on the most critical moment of flight.

Also how come they didn't notice the sudden drop in airspeed? it went from about 160 to 130 in a matter of 5 seconds!

We are talking a commercial level aircraft...

Yes, there are often distractions while still on the ground, but in these days of CRM, I doubt any crew member would let their peer conduct that sort of activity.

If I saw my FO texting on an approach he or she would have been reported ASAP to the FAA and to the company and I would have refused to fly any further trips with that pilot. My refusal to fly with them wouldn't have mattered becasue they would have been removed from the line anyway.

I've seen some "interesting" stuff first hand as well.  However, NO ONE would be stupid enough to text during a critical phase of flight.
