Hi -

Can someone instruct me how to do an automated approach using the Gamin 1000 that is installed in the C172? I have the basics of the autopilot down but can't seem to figure out the approach. Say I'm flying from  KTUS to KPHX. I get in the air and set the Direct to - KPHX set the CDI to GPS and away we go. Now we want to setup the approach. I press the PROC button. This defaults to SELECT APPROACH. I press the ENT button. This brings up a list of the possible approaches defaulted to BLOC 25R. I cannot find any way to choose a different approach so I press enter and select the default.

Now what? What buttons and settings do I need to complete the landing? I tried leaving the CDI on GPS and setting autopilot to Approach as I neared the airport but it just spiraled into the ground. A little instruction here would be appreciated. How to choose the desired approach and then execute it.

Thanks

PS. I can do this in the airliners with no problem.
