I have a reliable source telling me the 7900GTX scores 11k 3dmark05 and 6.5k in 3dmark06.
(and honestly, the 110w power consumption of the X1900 shocked me when I did some research for TechnicolorYawn's thread.)
Edit: I do think the 3700+ is a tad underpowered for the highest end graphics card - It's better matched with a X1800/7900GT (I heard it has a lower RRP than a 7800GT ) in my opinion.
Edit again: I researched your old ASUS motherboard and it's PCI-E. Therefore I'll assume your X850 is PCI-E. I say keep it and replace it with a DX10 card later.

2. Fed up and rather try a new build.
3. Therefore need to sell current parts while they are still worth something.
(I have to wait 'till summer to format this CPU-surge problem laptop. I'm a litle worked up on this minor problem so I'd be rather irritated if I was in his position.)

So if that AMD 3700 is a bit underpowered for X1900XT,
What CPU do you think will do fine for that card and will it work with Asus A8N-SLI mo-bo? Thanks!

Another option is to get a single core Opteron 148 and push it to 2.8ghz (like Neil and Mul).

Is there anything wrong with using SLI mobo and ATI video card at together? Cause I am not sure why you mentioned that

EDIT: It's OUT! For US$499, the below link is a much, much, much MUCH better buy than a X1900!

AMD Athlon64 3700+ S939 (San Diego)
Asus A8N-SLI
Kingston 2GB PC-3200 DDR
ATI Radeon X1800XT Crossfire
460Watts Enermax Powe Supply
And Guess what? The computer doesn't boot up. I turn it on, and everything turns on, but there is no no post/no video/no beeps,...I can't even get into BIOS. I tried unplugging everything and plugging it back but that didn't help either. I tried running the system with my older X850XT but there would still be no post/no video/no beeps. I run out of ideas...Can anyone please help me?

I have tried pretty much everything I could possibly think of but still no luck? Is there any chance it is just a defected mo-bo? Because I tried running the computer without RAM, and even CPU and thee would still be no post/no video/no beeps. I also checked the battery and all power supply cables. Nothing!! ….Defected mo-bo maybe? Or could be a defected CPU?

if it doesnt start up with X850, get the mobo out of the case.

1.
Could it be that my Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800XT Crossfire is just not compatible with the board and causes it to get damaged?
2.
Could it be that I don't have enough power? ATI Radeon X1800XT Crossfire needs at least 450watts of power and I have 460. (I am not sure if this helps but you know the addition power slot at the edge of all new ATI video cards? There is a red light whenever the card is active/running. Is it supposed to be red or is it a warning light that something isn't right with the video card, power usage or the setup?
3.
Is this motherboard (Asus A8N-SLI) even compatible with my video card (ATI Radeon X1800XT Crossfire) or any other ATI cards?
Please let me know what you think! I really appreciate!

My motherboard was placed against the case in my previous installs. Do you think that caused the problem or something?

Yes, you indeed forgot to screw in the dreaded brass screws I was talking about.
The brass scres go first into the case. Then the motherboard is placed on top of the brass screws where you screw the ordinary screws into the brass ones.
Edit: What was I talking about? The brass screws go into the case...
