ok, this is what i've done so far:

Took out one memory module, changed the IDE cable, secured the heatsink and added more thermal paste(this improved the temperature)

I have got further than Setup is Starting Windows and i formatted the hard disk, then it get's to the part where it copy's the files, my computer just restarted at 18%, there was no error messages or anything like that. Any suggestions on how i could fix this?

EDIT:

I got the fan running full RPM!

This could sound foolish. But are you by any chance using an xp cd that came with a pre built pc or did you purchase a new copy?

Try doing this

Format the drive yet again not a quick one. Using the NTFS file sys.

Than create a 25 gig partition. Try installing it on the 25 gigs and you can allocate the rest in windows.

You would go and right click My computer>manage>Disk Management under storage> On the right it should show you the C drive you've got and a huge amount of space that says unallocated.

From there you would click right New drive primary after it's done set it to extended and give it a drive letter, choose quick format and in 10 seconds you've got a new drive!

Give me the bloody model number of the hard drive. In most instances something will come out right.

Ok just by looking around I will take another whack at this until Mul get's his bum out of bed  J/K

Your going to need to boot the drive using the CD. There is an ISO image file on it which allows to be used in a new build. If not your going to need to know the company and model and create a floppy boot disk and go through command prompt.

W00T, 5000th post in tech...

Was that a Full NTFS format you did? (not a quick one)

I'm hoping that CD is a bootable utility for the Hard Disk. Remove the XP disc and put that cd in, and see if it boots to it. Within the utility you have the option to completely zero your hard disk drive. I've had a slightly different XP install issue, but doing this, then doing a Full NTFS reformat seemed to have remedied the issue.

The difficulty with having a problem at this stage is such that we don't know for sure, what is causing the problem. It could well be bad memory or a faulty graphics card.

Have you tried that CD?

Failing that, I'm going to ask you to test the memory with a bootable program, Memtest86. Just to clarify, have you tried using each of the modules on their own?

Cheers,

Mul
