They are sending out a research flight later tonight.

I found it.. :hrmm:
Although I have no idea where it is except that's it's at FL100

Pretty cool!

There seems to be some VFR traffic showing on there too!

There are a few GA flying about.

Apparently, that research flight is over the Midlands. (according to a guy on the Airnav forum)

That's because VFR traffic is permitted.

Its weird up there, were I live I can see most arrivals into Heathrow and every Departure/Arrival at London City and it is strange to me to not see one aircraft up there.

Jetset, do you pick up any military traffic with that radar box?

Yes, but they don't broadcast positional data so don't appear on the map.

The European air traffic control organisation has said flights could be disrupted for another 48 hours by ash spewing from a volcano in Iceland.

http://news.bbc.co.u...ope/8623534.stm

----------------------

Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Thurs April 15, 20:20

The cloud of volcanic ash continues to cover much of the UK. Following a review of the latest Met Office information, NATS advises that restrictions will remain in place in UK controlled airspace until 1300 (UK time) tomorrow, Friday 16 April, at the earliest.

However, flights from Northern Ireland and the Western Isles of Scotland to and from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick may be allowed in the period from 0100 (UK time) to 1300 (UK time) tomorrow subject to individual co-ordination. North Atlantic traffic to and from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Prestwick and Belfast may also be allowed in the period.

We will review further Met Office information and at 0230 (UK time) tomorrow we will advise the arrangements that will be in place through to 1800 (UK time) tomorrow. However be aware that the situation cannot be said to be improving with any certainty as the forecast affected area appears to be closing in from east to west. We continue to work closely with airports, airlines, and the rest of Europe to understand and mitigate the implications of the volcanic eruption.

That Met police helicopter is over the Cherwell Valley service station which has burnt to the ground..

Let's rename this to the "Let's keep track of the only airplane flying in England right now" thread :hrmm:

Edit: Hot air balloon flights must be unaffected :hrmm:

Dublin was shocking. There was easily 5000+ people in departures when I was on lunch earlier. One of my co-workers was saying they closed the whole airside part of the airport and most of our ground crews were sent home come 1300.

F***ing nightmare ><

My mate went to London early this morning with his girlfriend from Manchester, planning to return home this evening. Looks like they're staying at Heathrow overnight! :hrmm:

Haha, what's ironic is that there are dark high clouds now, casting shadows on the haze, coming from the north.

What about the NAT Tracks? Are these going to be affected for a while?

I know that if the European sectors are closed there is not much point, but say the area begins to clear up to the south. Will the Tracks just battle the wind and not follow/avoid the Jetstream now due to ash?
