December 1, 2011 - Beta Program Now Accepting Applications
As promised in our November update, we have big news for all of our Flight fans: the Microsoft Flight launch sequence has begun!

We're thrilled to announce that the Microsoft Flight Beta is scheduled to kick-off in January 2012 and we are now accepting applications to participate in the beta program. Note that any beta applications sent via e-mail to msflight@microsoft.com will not be considered for inclusion in the beta program.

We will be sorting through your applications over the coming month and will get back to qualifying participants with additional details throughout our beta phases in January. As we taxi for takeoff, we will continue to provide intriguing updates about the future of Microsoft Flight so please keep checking in on our website or on our Facebook Fan Page.

Fasten your seat belts, return your tray tables to their upright and locked positions, and get ready for Microsoft Flight to takeoff!

The Microsoft Flight Team

Great news, hopefully release will not be that far away :hrmm:

I wonder if the approval of an application will be based on the knowledge that the applicant has about Hawaii?

Pretty lame application. They should ask for computer specs and background.

I think Microsoft just rick-rolled us into signing up for their social network...

How is that being silly? It would allow people with basic to high end computers be able to beta the game for them. It would allow for a control beta to see how it reacts across the board, instead of a random selection that could be all high end units.

And allowing them to select people with a knowledge of aviation will be a help to the bet as they will have people who will actually want to use it and know how to properly criticize the prodct for its flaws.

But what we will end up with is a 16 year old who has never flown a day, want to fly a 747 of F/A-18 for the fun.

I did, and I think the apply form was terrible. I know they won't choose me because I'm under 18, but I think they would if they knew I have used MSFS since FS2002.

That's because Xbox Live and Games For Windows Live are the same thing. Since Flight will be a GFWL game, it's going to require a gamer tag. I think there is a way to change your gamer tag but I forgot how.

You can change it once only for free (every other change after this requires payment) by editing your GFWL/Live account details.

Alternatively, you can just visit this link: https://live.xbox.co.../ChangeGamertag

I don't own an Xbox nor do I see the need to buy one just to sign up. Is there a way to signup without purchasing an XBL account?

Xbox/Game For Windows accounts are actually free. Since Microsoft Flight will be part of that, you may as well just get yourself a gamertag anyway.
