I don't really know why anyone posts this kind of topic. Most people have the specs in their sigs.

Haha, I play FS on my laptop, and it's beautiful, just beautiful. Check the specs:-

- P4 3.4GHz 800MHz FSB 2MB Cache
- 1GB DDR2 RAM
- 100GB HDD
- 16xDVD-/+ R/RW with LightScribe
- PCI-Express ATI Radeon X600 256MB dedicated VRAM
- 17" Widescreen BrightView LCD.

The result = great graphics with great frames - I can pretty much set everything to max, except when flying with traffic/online.

With this system using your old case/powersupply etc. You'd get around 100 fps

alright so whats a good computer setup, to spend about 1500 on everything including a PSU and still getting at least 20fps in the PMDG and any a/c.

Its hard to say what to get its all on you. Do you want AMD or Intel? AMD is much harder to set up if you are overclocking etc. Intels are much easier to set up if overclocking. AMD are better gamers than Intels (execpt the Dothan, which is faster than any AMD clock per clock). If you want a rig to play and last at least two years I say get a mid range AMD X 2 which are excelent gamers and super fast on all other apps. You don't really need SLi, but if you want it go for it. Get a decent hardrive; I recomend the Maxtors DiamondMax 10 250GB + and they are cheap. Get some nice OCZ; I  recomend Platimun Rev. 2 PC 3200 they can do 270+ Mhz and its good samsung ram. Get a good mobo; go and read reviews at  AnAndTech or TomsHardware. I have an ASUS. They are great OClockers and very stable, but you have to get a good ASUS. I also like Gigabyte mobos. Get an Antec, OCZ, Seasonic or Enermax Power Supply, anywhere from 450 to 550 Watts if running SLi (550+ W recomended for SLi). If you have a nice case now you can reuse it, but remember you want to keep it cool so a good flowing case is a must. You need to get PCI-Express since it where the market is going. Get a BFG 7800GTX they are great cards or if you like ATi get a X1800XT. Do you need a Monitor or anything esle or just the PC...?

Alex

I get 20+ FPS with my dothan with the LVL-D 763 virtual cockpit and all the settings maxed, playing with ASV open, UTUSA, BEV, FE, and 1600 x 1200 and its much smoother than my P4 @ 3.6 even when drops below 20FPS which is does happen ...The Chip is at 2.64Ghz.

Ok If you want the best bang for the buck I would recomend getting a P4P800SE a CT479 and A Dothan 730 or 750 (if you can afford a 760 go for it) they both overclock past 2.4Ghz and they are faster than any P4 while gaming etc and even the AMD FX series.  All that can cost you less than 400 pluss an X850XT PE for another 400 and the rest for less than 200 you will have one ###### of a budget gaming rig...

Alex
No offense but I think you are overstating current Dothan abilities. Granted, they are promising mobile and even desktop CPUs with very good performance versus clock speed and power consuption, but they don't come close to what you are claiming with regard to the P4 Northwoods or Prescotts and certainly not the AMD 64FX CPUs. Not to mention that thus far the Dothan only supports a 400/533Mhz FSB, and DDR333.
http://www.gamepc.co...77BA5CCDA708B1E

Also, the mobo you recommended, P4P800SE supports Prescott and Celeron D CPUs, you'd need a 855 or 915 chipset, there may be others that support the Dothan but the i865 chipset does not.

WHAT????? Go read about the ASUS CT-479.... I am running mine on a 875P chipset how is that..... And clock per clock its faster as I stated on games.... I am getting 7064 at 2.66Ghz (230 X 12, giving me a 920 FSB) on the 3DMark05 with a mild Overclock to the Card 580/600. My Prescott at 3.6Ghz couldnt do this with higher card clocks.. The most it could do was around 6000 marks.

Alex

PS those are slower DOTHAN as they run 400Mhz FSB.

To support the Dothan natively he would need the chipsets I mention, the adapter does allow use of the Dothan on some 478pin mobos and to be fair you did mention it. Don't see where you said 'clock per clock its faster as I stated on games', I do see where you are claiming that "they are faster than any P4 while gaming etc and even the AMD FX series." and " Dothan it will Smash anything overclocked even the FX series". I don't find that to be accurate and maybe I am nit picking (been known to happen) but perhaps some reviews or benchmark comparisons? I mean I pull 6502 on 3Dmark05 with no OC on my AMD64 4000. I'm not trying to challenge you here or show you up, I just want to make sure we are providing accurate information to a guy that is about to drop two grand based on recommendations made here.

lol, sure, if they are 'smashing' the AMD64 FX series. Benchmarks aside there are other issues to consider such as up-grade path. Going the Dothan-adapter-i865 route leaves an incredibly small up-grade path, the 478 pin Northwoods are already tapped out which leaves you Dothan upgrades for as far as the bios/chipset will support it, no dual cores, no DDR2. There is computing beyond todays benchmark, a serious socket 939 onan SLI board can be built in the $2k range leaving up-grades down the road for a second vid card and dual core CPUs.
