BBC just confirmed that EGLL is closed to inbound flights that aren't in the air already. 21 people arrested in London and the Midlands. (The Thames Valley and Birmingham)

Oh man, I start my business trips in Sept and I know I'll be flying into London quite a few times until the end of the year. I actually feel bad for all the good, law abiding Muslims living in the UK and all around the world that get stereotyped nad labeled 'terrorist' or 'terrorist; supports. It really is a shame that a small number of sick individuals are making this world such a dangerous place to live in.

here you go folks ... the knowledge circling the UK Business world ( its pretty much the same stuff )

-------------
there is main points at the bottom ( below the dotted line at the bottom of the page ) for people without much time
------------

Dear All,

PLEASE COMMUNICATE THIS TO YOUR COLLEAGUES AND ANYONE WHO IS DUE TO TRAVEL BY AIR TODAY

With Immediate Effect:

Security at all airports in the UK has been tightened and delays are reported. MI5 has raised the UK threat level to critical - the highest possible.

The Department for Transport has set out the details of the security measures at UK airports.

Passengers will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK, the department said.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.
See below for details of what is permitted to be carried onboard.

This affects ALL UK airports and all airlines departing the UK.

Anyone travelling today should expect lengthy flight delays and cancellations, and also body search's. As the situation is changing rapidly, it is strongly advised that all passengers wishing to travel today should check with the airline they are flying with before leaving for the airport. Please see below, relevant websites and telephone numbers. Because of high demand, you may experience delays in getting through on these sites/telephone numbers.

www.easyjet.com Tel: 0871 244 2366

The following information has also been received from British Airways. Further e-mails will follow throughout the day.

British Airways, acting on instruction from the UK Government, wishes to advise passengers that no items of hand baggage can be carried on board any aircraft departing any UK airport.

The UK Government has advised that this instruction will apply to all airlines operating from UK airports.

Passengers may only take through the airport security search point, the following items:

Travel documents essential for the journey (eg passports, tickets and visas)

Pocket sized wallets and pocked sized purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards and identity cards). Handbags are not permitted.

Prescribed medicines essential for the duration of the flight, except in liquid form unless verified as authentic.

Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases.

Contact lenses, without bottles of solution

For those traveling with an infant: baby food, milk and sanitary items essential for the flight.

Keys (but no electrical key fobs).

Every other item must be carried in customer's hold luggage.

For clarity, passengers are advised that no electrical or battery powered items including laptops, mobile phones, ipods, remote controls etc can be carried in the cabin and must be checked in as hold baggage.

Customers are advised to check-in as normal but to expect delays at all UK airports.

British Airways regrets any inconvenience caused.

Any customers not complying with this Government instruction will not be accepted for travel by British Airways.

We expect severe congestion in and around all UK airports and possible delays to flights.

As a result, those customers who do not wish to travel today (August 10) may rebook to travel up to December 1, 2006 subject to availability or alternatively obtain a refund.

A freephone number for UK passengers has been activated: 0800 727 800.

Please contact the airline or your travel agent to rebook or arrange a refund.

Passengers departing from airports outside the UK are advised to check ba.com for the latest flight information prior to departing for the airport. To check the latest real-time information for your flight (for today and up to 5 days in advance).

then this came thro a short while later ...

Dear All,

Further to my earlier e-mail, the following urgent update has just been received from British Airways. All flights into and out of London Heathrow up to 1500 hours today have been cancelled. Helpful contact details are given at the bottom of this e-mail and further e-mail updates will follow throughout the day.

Please share this information with your colleagues and anyone who is due to travel today. - Thank you.

British Airways, along with all other airlines, is experiencing major
disruption to its operations at London Heathrow airport because of severe
airport congestion following the introduction of new security arrangements.

All British Airways shorthaul (UK and European) inbound and outbound
flights to and from London Heathrow up until 1500 BST today (August 10) are
cancelled.

Any customers (longhaul and shorthaul) who do not need to travel today to
or from London Heathrow are advised to stay at home.

It is likely that there may be a number of longhaul cancellations from
London Heathrow during the day.

The traffic situation on all approaching roads to London Heathrow is also
extremely congested and any customers thinking of flying from the airport
to are advised to leave plenty of time for their journeys.

British Airways flights at Gatwick and flights operated by the airline's
regional subsidiary BA Connect, are continuing to operate, albeit with
delays.

Customers who have to travel are advised to check on ba.com where they will
be able to find the very latest  information regarding every British
Airways flight.

Passengers who do decide to travel from any UK airport, may only take
through the airport security search point, the following items:

Travel documents essential for the journey (eg passports, tickets and
  visas)

Pocket sized wallets and pocked sized purses plus contents (for example
money, credit cards and identity cards). Handbags are not permitted.

Prescribed medicines essential for the duration of the flight, except in
liquid form unless verified as authentic.

  Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases.

For clarity, passengers are advised that no electrical or battery powered
items including laptops, mobile phones, ipods, remote controls etc can be
carried in the cabin and must be checked in as hold baggage.

Customers who choose not to travel from any UK airports on British Airways
today will be able to refund or rebook their flight tickets.

All rebookings have to be for travel before 1 December 2006.

Customers should call a special freephone number 0800 727 800.

People who whine about the hand luggage thing are absolute idiots

Should we just let the terrorists on planes with bombs so they can kill countless people shall we? ###### think it through, stop being selfish and think of the people who could die! Think of their families! Their children!

How would THEY feel if we let terrorists blow up some planes just so you can have some ###### hand luggage

Precisely, the pax that are being interviewed on the BBC news special are all complaining, would they rather die because we didn't take precautions. Somehow, I don't think so. One woman is saying its stupid how they have to empty their bags, and they can scan them anyway. She obviously hasn't payed any attention to the spokespeople who have said that people are carrying innocent looking objects, and then peicing them together later to make a bomb. Some people are just so ignorant :D

A good way to change the public opinion about Hizbollah or Muslims in general.

don't say that people support terrorists but after this the Libanon bombing may go on without any problem.

Image how it would be to be a muslim walking on Heatrow today.
Imagine how it would be to be a muslim in todays world.

No this cary on thing? IS that UK or US as well? On, the bight side, a plot was just foiled, lives were saved, and we have won a victory. Also, if this is for the US, security will actually be easer in the comming months, no crap to pun in an x-ray, and more head room once they tear our the overhead bins.

People need entertainment while on board even a 2hr flight. I would atleast.

I believe its only in UK airports AT THIS TIME - US has raised its terror advisory level, so I am sure that security is tightened.

And don't get cocky. They captured 21 or so guys, there could still be more out there. I wish the best, but don't think it will be over like that.
