Sorry to say, it's pretty arcadey. The screen is bordered with overlays including a colorful throttle meter.

Ever try disabling the whole HUD display thingy? Free flight works just the same as before, I'm sure. But, just speculating here.  :hrmm:

You can disable it in the options. See here:

Except for that, how much arcade exists in Free Flight?

The fact Free Flight is identical to FSX is good.

The fact there will be no ATC or AI is pure horror.  B)

I'm pretty thrilled for you, but I think you should abide by the rules and not discuss it...

I don't how or where that so-called "fact" got started, but...

...having very carefully reviewed the actual text of the NDA, as well as the email acknowledgement from MS Flight, there is absolutely nothing that prohibits one from stating that they are a beta tester or have the beta installed.

In fact, the officially recommended response to any questions is "...but I can't tell you anything about it."

However, to be perfectly frank, they may as well simply made this a completely open public beta.

For FS9 and FSX beta testing, we had to actually sign a printed agreement and snail-mail it to MS before being accepted into the program. IOW, those betas were much more seriously run, and far more tightly monitored and controlled.

There's already a handful of beta testers leaking the beta on YouTube.  :hrmm:

Why didn't they make it an open beta? They would get a lot more bug reports.

I doubt they would fix bugs anyway.

Except for the HUD, I think it's identical. If my memory serves me right, someone said that.

Disabled the HUB as suggested and it's made it a bit better.

On the upside, it performs 50x better than FSX ever did.

^ I tried to get very dense clouds, lots of shadows going, find an area with wide view distance and lots of autogen, all settings on high, and I'm getting ~60FPS. Not too shabby. :hrmm:

:hrmm: If the settings went any higher, I would have set them higher.

I am getting a strong impression that Flight is being developed for consoles first, PCs later.

That makes no sense. Everything is developed on PC then dumbed down for consoles.

I have seen a leaked video which shows the options. There are only 6 options and they only have 3 levels: low, medium and high.

Yes. Those are the only options in Flight.

I know it makes no sense, but actually, the majority of games today is console ports.

You just said what I said. It's developed on a PC then ported to a console.

No, console port means the opposite.

A game is developed on PC for consoles, then the console version gets ported on PC. It's cheaper and faster.

The settings menu in its entirety.
