Also, another question comes in, are you willing to take full and sole responsibilty for the 400-something lives on board? The minute you sit in that seat, every life is in your hand. You screw up, and 400 lives are gone. Would you be up to that?

Btw, I didn't see one person who would try to get the pilots concious again.

true.... but if u do nothing there is NO chance of survival and all the 400 passenger or so WILL die. On the other hand if u take the controls there is a slight chance of sucess.... as i mentioned earlier something is better than nothing.....

This is exactly the situationt that happened last summer, the pilots became uncon. in the 737 and 2 people with some experience took the controls. They failed leaving all the passengers abord dead, but still there was a chance for survival even if it didn't occur. At least the passengers had some hopes rather then them knowing that THEY ARE ALL GOING TO DIE NO MATTER WHAT!
Nobody wants to wake up in the morning knowing that they are going to die today and there is adsolutley no hope of survival.

Like I said, if the jet is flying on autopilot, try to get the pilots concious again. On a flight of 400 people, there's some good chance at least one of the has medical experience. If they go unconcious, chances are it's due to lack of oxygen if the plane depressurizes. Solution? Get an oxygen mask on them and monitor them. The jet's on auotpilot, and it won't run out of gas that fast.

Since it's a 747, it's likely that it came from a far place and had a 3rd pilot on board...so i would let him do his job.

If not, i'd probably try to do an autoland

You can't just sit there and do nothing.

I really have a firm belief that if that happened and I had the right info I could lock the localizer and bring it on in...as for stopping that bird and landing..good luck :D

as737700 brought up a good point. Just let the third pilot do his/her job. (I forgot about him/her)

thats a good point, but when i was doing this poll i didn't take that as a consideration. My veiw was that it had 2 pilots which is also very likely....

I would try to land it. I was thinking about September 11 after I watched Flight 93 and thought that if we took over the plane I could have landed the plane.(Unless there was a real pilot on board. Then I would have help him/her.)

  :D  yeah...

like I said before, I'd probably just bring it in for an autoland...if not...heck..I have some time in a 717 sim, so I think I'd be able to land it, don't count it being a greaser though :D

I bet everyone where with flight simulation experience in some heavies can land the plane. Probably not a safe lnading, but we can get the plane down.
Thanks of the posts guys   :D

I went in a 737 sim. We did a full autoland, with a manual and knowledge of some of the systems it seems like a do-able thing on your own.

Two pilots are required on all flights operating under FAR 91 that is over 8 hours.  There are only a select few flights below 8 hours in a 747, if at all?

I'm a real world pilot in GA planes, but have only sim experience in heavies. But there is a HUGE difference between real and simulated. Take a real Cessna 172 for example. I don't think a person who's only has fs9 experience can land it in real life on their first try....crashing it onto the runway...maybe.

I agree.  I think they could land it but would nose-wheel the ###### out of the landing break something off, but I think it could be done.

Try to fly the aircraft and land at JFK. That way you get a chance to save lives rather than just sit and wait for the end.

If you were going to land, forget JFK. You'd most likely get diverted to an air force base where there's less people and traffic.

i would manually fly it... come on..... if no one else flies it (safetly of course) then we would all die.... even if i tear up the landing gear i would still save like 300+ people

I think you mean Three pilots :D

I guess JFK to London or Paris would be under 8 hrs and only require 2 pilots :D
